This month, we celebrated the International Women’s Day (IWD), with a unique vision and perspective. The global theme, 'Each for Equal' underscored the role each of us plays on a daily basis to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, and collectively create a world of equal opportunities for all.
To mark the day we hosted an exclusive IWD Facebook LIVE Chat on March 5, 2020, with experts from the legal fraternity, civil society and academia working on abortion issues in India.
Ms. Rupsa Mallik, Moderator
Ms. Dipika Jain, Panelist
Dr. Mrinal Satish, Panelist
Mr. V.S. Chandrashekar, Panelist
Our Panellist covered the grounds for understanding the 2020 IWD theme 'Each For Equal', particularly in light of the recent MTP Amendment Bill passed in the Lok Sabha.

Imagine an assault survivor knocking at several doors for safe abortion, is denied; succumbs, tried to end self, but fate mocks, the 'well' where she wanted to end her life runs dry due to several draughts! Fortunately, she gets help soon enough from a civil society organisation, and gets safe abortion services! While she was able to get the healthcare needed, there are thousands whose story does not end on this note. Many are unable to reclaim their lives. Abortion is healthcare, it is women's reproductive choice, and it must be respected.
